A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman, adorned with the sun. (Revelation 11,19a; 12, 1-6a.10ab)
Christ is the first-fruits of all who have fallen asleep (1Corinthians 15, 20-27)
The Almighty has done great things for me (Luke 1, 39-56)
The child in my womb leapt for joy
God shows himself, but it’s impossible to conquer him. God gives himself, but it’s impossible to posses him. God is the one who loves and he asks to love. There is a very important moment in human life: it’s the time when the person surrenders to Him and he/she opens his hands. This attitude is called ‘awe’, but we can translate also with the words ‘disposable attention’. God cannot be experienced through intellectual arguments, but He is known through the experience of free loving. Mary and Elizabeth are women of free loving, in whose wombs life grows. The believer is the womb where life grows with joy and in full, without space or time limits. God regards religion useless; it’s useful only for whom, according to any culture, ‘sells’ sacred matters. God doesn’t ask us to be ‘religious’, but believers, because in the womb of the believer grows life.
From this day forward all generations will call me blessed
God is a mystery (but we try to use the word ‘richness’) of liberation from evil and death. These two words, eventually, have many faces. For this we, his people, call Him three times holy. Mary, the creature who holds rooted life in her womb, is called blessed, that is ‘happy’; a universal happiness which embraces time, earth and space.
A missionary, who has lived many years in Uganda, asked to himself: “What for my presence here, in this region?” After a long time he managed to give an answer to himself: “I’m here in order to help the people to free themselves from fear. People, here, have any sort of fear, starting from nature, which they feel harmful, dangerous for their lives. I’m here as a free person and when the people meet me, eventually, they greet me smiling. I understand that they like to tell me: you are blessed, happy, as we feel happy and blessed.”
His mercy reaches from age to age for those who fear him
The Magnificat is the canticle of gratuity, hope and solidarity. We are called to live exactly the same experiences that Jesus, the Son and Mary, the Mother lived. They are the first-fruits, we are the harvest; they are the first among many brothers and sisters.
We are very consoled by the fact His mercy has embraced those who at any time and at any place have recognised the Lordship of God, as the Son and the Mother did.
Today is the feast of the entire humanity adorned with the sun. God is the sun and we are adorned by Him.
Today, we, Jesus’ disciples, manifest to you, Mary, all our feelings:
We contemplate you, Woman, who embraces all hopes of humanity.
We praise you, beloved Daughter of the Father.
We blessed you, Mother of the divine Word.
We honour you, dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
We invoke you, Mother and Model for all the Church
You are the ‘yes’ of all humanity to the mystery of salvation
You are the Mother of Christ, the baby who was born in Bethlehem and showed to simple shepherds and the wise men came from the east.
You are the Mother who presents her Son in the Temple, escapes with him into Egypt and comes back from Egypt to Nazareth
You are the Mother of Jesus’ disciples waiting for Pentecost day
You are the Mother of the Church and shine as star of evangelization, you are the missionary of the Kingdom.
