The United States and UNMIS, the U.N. mission in Sudan, strongly condemn the burning and looting of Abyei by armed elements there, and the northern Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) who took control on May 21 amidst false claims of SPLA involvement. At the same time, peacemakers attempt to assess the damage in the village of Sukamir in North Darfur that was recently hit by two Sudanese air strikes.
