At the Pontifical Urban University in Rome from April the 21stto the 23rd an International Congress on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the promulgation of the decree 'Ad Gentes' was held.  The Congress’ title was: ‘The Journey of Mission. International Congress on the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Promulgation of the Conciliar Decree Ad Gentes’. Those who attended were various people from the Academic world such as missiologists S. Bevans and R. Schroeder, missionaries among whom the Superior General of the Missionaries of Africa Fr. Baawobr Richard Kuuia and members of the ecclesiastical world such as the Archbishop of Manila Card. L.A. Tagle and the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples Card. F. Filoni.


The Congress is a collaborative effort of the Università Urbaniana, the Association of Catholic Missiologists and Missio. The aim of the Congress, it is written in the presentation “is not simply a rereading of the Conciliar text, but rather to re-understand its content in the light of the transformation that has taken place in the contemporary world, to revitalise the Christian significance of the same change with the same strength of the announcement of the Gospel. This Congress wishes to deeply reflect on the present relevance of Mission, on its universality, on the renewed commitments which it solicits and on the essential values that it proposes”.
The Congress was divided into six sessions:
1. The Vatican Ecumenical Council II: a New Springtime of the Church and of Mission
2. The Council’s Response to the Call of Announcement of the Gospel
3. The Reception of Ad Gentes in Missionary territories  
4. Fifty Years of Missionary Progress
5. The Protagonists of the Missionary Pathways
6. The Current Missionary Panorama: for a Mission AD Gentes.
