On May 1st, the Christian Community of St. Joseph the Worker Church, in Lao Hon (Northern part of Macau) celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the blessing of its church! The celebration was presided by Bishop Stephen Lee and with the participation of some diocesan priests and religious and around 400 people filled the church. During the Eucharistic celebration, 6 adolescents received the Sacrament of Confirmation and 10 youngsters made their 1st Communion.

Since 1999, the Comboni Missionaries were entrusted with the mission of taking care of this new place of worship and… “to look for clients!” And that’s what was done: starting by visiting the neighborhood, small group of catechumens, place for children to play, simple celebrations… and the community developed and increased. Now, there are 80 kids in the Sunday school program, 20 catechumens (at Easter, 8 adults received the Sacraments of Initiation… and 11 children were baptized on Easter Sunday!)

Today, it’s a lively Christian Community, with many different groups serving the needs of the Parish and outreach in the area and into Mainland China!

The motto of the anniversary celebration “Two decades in the love of God: evangelize together for the future!” wants to express the feelings of all those that are part of this little flock: recognize that it was God’s love that brought them together and this far, and a renewed commitment to work together, pray together… and share the Gospel with the people around: that’s how to build a bright future.

May St. Joseph continue to intercede for this Christian community.
