Yesterday, a new computer lab was inaugurated in Comboni College Khartoum (CCK) in Sudan. It was dedicated to the happy memory of late fr. Luigi Cocchi (1932-2021), who back in the 90’s had established a computer lab for the school of CCK as well as for the Church personnel. This new lab was set up with the contribution of Mondo Aperto Onlus, the charity of the Italian Province.

New times call for new skills, and knowledge of computer has become basic literacy requirement for all. We hope it may be the first of many more labs, in CCK as well as in other schools in the Sudan, where the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is a compulsory subject that is being introduced in the new curriculum, while very, very few schools have such facilities.

The inauguration was carried out with the presence of the provincial superior, Fr. John Richard Kyankaaga, some confreres and a number of teachers. It took place in the midst of the latest nationwide school lockdown which the government has enforced for the latest wave of Covid, which interrupted once more the already-troubled school year, that has been over and over again slowed down by ongoing demonstrations.

Blessing the lab, the following reinterpretation of Psalm 23 was read:
The Lord is my Programmer, I shall not crash.
He installed His software on the hard disk of my heart.
All of His commands are user friendly.
His Directory guides me to the right choices for His name's sake.
Even though I scroll through the problems of life,
I will fear no bugs, for He is my backup.
His password protects me.
He prepares a menu before me in the presence of my enemies.
His help is only a keystroke away.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me, all the days of my life.
And my file will be merged with His and saved forever!
