La primavera di ogni due anni è marcata per la celebrazione del Forum Sociale Mondiale (FSM) arrivato quest'anno alla sua 16a edizione. Iniziato in contrapposizione al Forum Economico Mondiale nel 2001 a Porto Alegre (Brasile) è ritornato in Brasile dopo Tunisi e Montreal, a Salvador de Bahia per essere precisi. La scelta non è dovuta alle marcate e bellissime caratteristiche culturali e storiche di questa città ancora impregnata da ricordi coloniali e afro-brasiliani, ma a motivazioni politiche. E questo in contrasto con la supposta apoliticità e areligiosità proclamata nella Carta dei principi orientatori di quella che è, purtroppo ancora, l’unica libera piattaforma di movimenti e idee. Il motto inspiratore, “Un altro mondo è possibile” è risultato quasi assente. Le vicende degli ex-presidenti Lula e Dilma e il difficile momento politico che vive il Brasile hanno infatti dominato questo FSM. Un altro mondo è possibile. Questo nuovo mondo è il Regno del Padre. Dal 10 al 20 di marzo, siamo riuniti a Salvador de Bahia (Brasile) per due Forum Sociali, quello Mondiale (FSM) e quello Comboniano (FC). Siamo una cinquantina di missionari e missionarie e ci presentiamo come Comboni Network, identificandoci come laici, sorelle, fratelli, sacerdoti della Famiglia Comboniana. Veniamo dall’Africa – Congo, Kenya, Sud Sudan per esempio –, dall’Europa e dall’America Latina e Stati Uniti.

Grazie al gran lavoro svolto dal Comitato organizzatore brasiliano tutto è pronto per la realizzazione del prossimo Forum Sociale Mondiale (FSM) che si terrà dal 13 al 17 marzo 2018, a Salvador di Bahia (Brasile). Questa volta lo slogan del FSM è “Resistere è creare, resistere è trasformare”. ONG, sindacati movimenti popolari e di lotta, urbani e rurali, comunità indigene ed afro-discendenti, movimenti di donne, studenti brasiliani hanno ricomposto lo spirito di Porto Alegre, dove nacque l’esperienza del social forum, in una stagione di crescita partecipativa, di conquiste e di rafforzamento della democrazia.

Such a conviction cannot be written off as naive romanticism, for it affects the choices which determine our behavior. If we approach nature and the environment without this openness to awe and wonder, if we no longer speak the language of fraternity and beauty in our relationship with the world, our attitude will be that of masters, consumers, ruthless exploiters, unable to set limits on their immediate needs. By contrast, if we feel intimately united with all that exists, then sobriety and care will well up spontaneously.

The Brazilian Committee of the World Social Forum 2018 launched an Open Letter to convene the people, organizations, social movements, networks and platforms of movements in Brazil, Latin America and the World to join the construction of the next world edition of the forum, which will be held in Salvador, Bahia [Brazil], from March 13 to 17, 2018. The proposal of this forum, in the midst of so many setbacks, loss of rights, democratic guarantees and freedoms throughout the world, is to think of common solutions for humanity, in a solidarity, democratic perspective, respect for diversity, to face the causes of various forms of violence, social and regional inequalities. The motto of WSF 2018 is to Resist is to Create, to Resist is to Transform pointing to the need for alternatives for another possible world.
