Today’s economy is threatened by the constant changes in the world. Indeed, it is hard to imagine what an ordinary person can really understand when they hear talk of a ‘new world order’. In the face of today’s scenarios – which are far from being ‘orderly’ – there are, however, people who sometimes decide to help the poor and disadvantaged, while others continue their usual lives in total indifference. Here is the brief testimony of Beatriz, a young Combonian lay missionary (CLM) from Mexico, a person who could not remain indifferent.

My name is Beatriz Maldonado Sánchez. I am a Combonian lay missionary from Mexico. The Combonian missionaries arrived here 70 years ago. For the past year, I have been looking after the financial accounts of the CLM international movement. We have been running training courses to help members of the movement to study the possibility of launching initiatives to generate the financial resources we need for our missionary projects.

I realised that today the challenges are really big, but that it is possible to break out of general indifference by starting simple initiatives that can make a difference in the difficult economic reality.

For example, Ángel, still a child, gave me strong support in running the ‘sweet shop’ opened for a month in the school where I work, with the aim of raising funds to send to a mission where some CLMs work. Nothing great, mind you. But we managed to scrape together 100 euros, which were immediately sent to the LMC Central Committee to be sent to the LMCs working in Mozambique, to support their project to ensure some food for the poorest people there.

Fortunately, we also have wonderful people around us, like Carmita Espinoza, an Ecuadorian friend who knows our movement. When she heard about the initiative, she promptly donated 20 euros. It is by uniting the efforts of simple people who are willing to lend a hand that we succeed in carrying out small projects for human promotion. And if you who read me are also willing to contribute, you can do so by contacting our official website.

With a view to building the Kingdom of God in the world, we can all make a small gesture that can ‘make a difference’, starting a constructive story for those who are crushed by today’s difficult scenarios.

Everything is possible when we allow ourselves to be conquered by the Love of God that can do all things.
