On February 6-8, Fr. Alberto Pelucchi, vicar general of the Comboni Missionaries, visited the confreres living in Poland. Both Comboni Communities of Krakow and Warsaw gathered in Warsaw. It was a time given to fraternal sharing and to ongoing formation. All the Comboni missionaries were present with the exception of Fr. Akpako Théotime Parfait, who had to travel to his country, Benin, for a death in the family. In the picture from left: Fr. Zębik Krzysztof Adam; Fr. Romero Morales José Angel Santos; Fr. Fr. Alberto Pelucchi took the occasion for presenting in general lines the current situation of the Comboni Missionaries, underlining some important aspects of the Institute, among them the shifting of the origin of vocations “from the North to the South of the world, thus making our Institute ever more international.”

During his visit, “the vicar general – said Bro. Jacek Andrzej Pomykacz – spoke to us about the fraternal relationships in community life and of the difficulties in creating a community environment where such relationships can grow. Fr. Pelucchi also stressed the importance of a linear look at the history of the Comboni Missionaries in Poland, asking us to reflect on the reasons and the ways of our presence in the country, both in the past and in the present. He also invited the confreres to examine with attention these aspects within the current context of the Polish society and the Polish Church.”

On February 7, added Bro. Jacek, “the people of the neighborhood prepared and shared with the missionaries some of the sweets they had for the celebration of the feast of “Fat Thursday” (tlusty czwartek), particularly felt in Polish tradition. The vicar general also had the occasion to enjoy a little bit of snow which this year has fallen in abundance in the land of John Paul II.”
