May 9 was a day of joyous celebration for the Comboni Missionaries as three young men professed their vows, including our very own Manuel Venegas. For the past two years Manny has been living in formation in Xochimilco, Mexico on his way to becoming a Comboni Missionary. He made his vows on May 9 with Javier Martin Ruiz from Peru and Jose de Jesus Nieto from Mexico. Fr. José Manuel Baeza Gama, Provincial of the North American Province, presided over the ceremony.

"I am super excited and am filled with great humility and joy to consecrate my life to God and more and more as a Comboni Missionary of the Heart of Jesus," Manny said. He will now go to South Africa to study theology for his scholasticate. He also hopes to study other languages. At the end of his scholasticate, Manuel Vemegas will make his Perpetual Vows and Missionary Priestly Ordination.

During the homily Fr. Luis Alberto Barrera Pacheco reminded the novices that their lives now, in a more profound way, are linked to that of Christ. Then the young novices made their profession, pledging to live like Christ in chastity, poverty and obedience under the guidelines of the Church and its institutions religious.
