At this particular time, I would love to remind you something about the late Fratello Giuseppe Redaelli whom I personally encountered working with him in the same office as his assistant in charge of logistics/procurement for many years in South Sudan Province. I would call the late as a realistic Missionary. Sometimes it’s so difficult for others to admit such rational idea about the person you met in your life to term him with such a name as ‘’realistic missionary’’.

What I know, Fratelo Giuseppe Redaelli has shown his missionary efforts and had done comparatively nothing, and yet he professes to bearing a message of infinite importance which is the test the world made for him. He is far than the other missionary and who don’t claim that Christ is soon to come.

Once he told me, as people we are not deficient in talent. There are men and women among us whose labors God would accept if they would offer themselves to him, but there are so very who the spirit of sacrifice. Some will hand out readily of their means, and feel that when they have done this, there is no more required of them. They make special sacrifice in thus doing. He said, money is good as far as it goes, but unless accompanied by personal effort, it will go but a little way toward converting souls to the truth. Not only does God call for your money, but he calls for you. While you have given of your means, you have selfishly withheld yourselves. One earnest worker in the vineyard is worth more than a million of money without men to do the work.

Bro. Giuseppe Redaelli, Comboni missionary.

Fratelo Giuseppe added, giving of yourselves will be a sacrifice if you have a correct estimate of the work, and realize its claims. Christ our pattern was an earnest worker. He not only left the royal courts of Heaven and for our sakes became poor, that we might have infinite riches but took human nature and by personal labors he came close to man that he might reach him where he was, in his error and blindness. He withheld not himself. He gave all. He suffered deprivation, and reproach and hatred of those whom he came to bless and save, and finally sacrificed his life in the work. And now, says Christ, I have done all this for you, what are you willing to do for me? I have given you an example of myself said Fratelo Giuseppe Redaelli to me.

He again said, my son Tito what should I sacrifice as a Comboni Missionary? How this has challenged me. His sacrifices today are not the oxen or lambs of the Old Testament, but God does ask things of us that require sacrifice and it may be different for every person. I am a human being and a bush missionary in the heart of Africa South Sudan. I love my life! My work is wonderful, and when I look out my windows, I see beautiful, lush, green environment. I get to be part of a community whose language and culture is so different from my own country Italy. We are honored that God asked this of us. And yet, there is a cost.

I asked him some questions if he can say No to the request? When he told me the news, that he has been transfer to Catholic Diocese of Wau. He said, how can I say no? Yes, serving Jesus has a cost, but it is worth it! The God who is Almighty, King of Kings, and the Great I am loves me with such an unending, unconditional love that he sent his Son to be my sacrifice. How can I say no to Him when He asks me to sacrifice everyday to him, relationships and some comfort and health? Jesus sacrificed His life on the altar cross for me. I have learned that HE is worth it and that HE will honor and look after those who are willing to sacrifice and daringly follow Him.

Things may not be perfect and hard times will come said fratelo Giuseppe, but He makes all things good! I have seen the beauty of His church working together and have felt the miracle of prayers said in different languages from His people around the world. This is the God I serve, the God to whom I will not sacrifice something that has cost me nothing. It has cost me, but HE is worth it and has blessed me beyond what I have ever dreamed.

He said, as you think of Comboni Missionaries who have sacrificed much to answer God’s call on their lives, pray that He will show them the ways in which He has blessed them in return.

In this sense, will this example of Lord in self-sacrifice and disinterested benevolence will save his follow men. Yes, there are many young men and women those middle age who have experience in the truth but don’t advance in the divine life and increase in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and they don’t know the cause. They are not workers with Christ. If they would work for Jesus, their sympathies would be brought in close union with Christ and they would grow in him their living head, and have better understanding of the nature of his work and of his sacrifice for man and would place that estimate upon souls proportionate to the value of the price Christ has paid for man. There are a large number who, if they would come near enough to God by entire consecration, would hear his voice saying, go labor in my vineyard, and ye shall receive your wages by and by.

I have realized that, God calls for men and women to qualify themselves, by consecration to his will and earnest study of the Scriptures, to do his special work for these last days. He calls for men now who can work. As they engage in the work in sincerity and humility to do all they can, they will be obtaining a more thorough experience. They will have a better knowledge of the truth and better know how to reach souls and help them just where they need to be helped. Workmen are needed now, just now to labor for God. The fields are already white for the harvest and yet laborers are few. Late Giuseppe has left a heavy work to his confreres the Comboni Missionaries and specially those in South Sudan.

Let all the remaining Comboni Missionaries who profess to believe in Christ follow the example of fratelo Giuseppe Redaelli, and they will be doing a great work for Jesus. It is easy to cry, when it is popular to do so, never man Spake like this man’’ to echo the hosanas to the Son of David; though we do not the things he bids us, and do not follow his example in self-denial and in working to do others good. A realistic religious person has to do with the heart and life. All who are realistic followers of Jesus will have a special interest to work for the Master, whose servants they profess to be, in gathering souls in to the ranks of Christ. The Christian life does not consist altogether of meditation and prayer, although these are essential but of earnest active working, as well as meditating and praying.

Fratelo Giuseppe once said that Comboni Missionaries are wanted throughout the great harvest field, self-sacrificing and who will do as their Master has given them an example in his life. He added, can we be too earnest and self-sacrificing in our efforts to set the truth before the world? Shall we plead for ease and for the pleasure of his life, to enjoy our pleasant homes and the society of family and friends, and let others do the work which must be done in warning the world? Shall we plead as did the ungrateful ones to whom Christ extended the invitation to come to supper, I pray thee have me excused? Or shall we grid on the armor with cheerfulness, hope, faith and like valiant soldiers, be willing to engage in the thickest of the fight, war the good warfare, share the glorious victory, and receive the eternal reward.

Of this great salvation. I say to you, my brethren, in the fear of God, that we do not place a just estimate upon souls for whose redemption Christ paid so great a price. Christ and angels are ready to work with our efforts, if we will work with love, simplicity, and faith said Giuseppe Redaelli because he loves his work.

In conclusion, all these were spoken by Fratelo Giuseppe Redaelli which I personally recorded them down during my encountering with him for many times sharing his own inner-most call to serve the humanity in the world which he did to his best till God call him to his Kingdom in heaven. Giuseppe was a very spiritual person and committed to his work which everyone who met him would say the same as I said. May Giuseppe Redaelli MCCJ intercede for us and the world to have peace to dwell.
