On 7th December 2025, the Sacred Heart Parish in Sakakini (Cairo) celebrated its centenary in thanksgiving for one hundred years of grace. This day was received with humility and deep gratitude. His Excellency Bishop Claudio Lurati, Latin Bishop of Egypt, presided over the Holy Mass, and Bishop Dominic Eiubu of Kotido Diocese joined the celebration—both having served previously as parish priests here. We were also honored by the presence of Father John Paul John Paul Kpatcha, superior of SMA (Société des Missions Africaines), whose participation was a sign of missionary fraternity.
We remember with appreciation all who prayed, sacrificed, and served before us—especially the SMS Fathers who dedicated their lives from the beginning, and the Comboni Missionaries who later strengthened and expanded the parish, opening its doors generously to Sudanese refugees arriving in Cairo. With affection we recalled Fr. Spadavecchia Cosmo Vittorio and all those who offered the best years of their youth to the Gospel in this parish.
From our community, priestly vocations have grown as a fruit of steadfast faith. Our parish has become a home and refuge, especially for those fleeing the war in Sudan—just as the Holy Family was welcomed in Egypt, we continue to welcome those in need.
Today, we praise God who has accompanied us through every joy and every trial. We pray that the next century may remain faithful to the Sacred Heart: missionary, welcoming, and full of hope.
