The Cuore Amico Fraternity Missionary Association (TSO) has awarded Father Diego Dalle Carbonare, Provincial Superior of the Comboni Missionaries in Egypt-Sudan, the Cuore Amico Award 2026 in the Religious category (sometimes referred to as the “Nobel of Missionaries”).
In its official communication, dated 5th June 2026, the Association highlights that the award was given in recognition of his missionary commitment in Sudan, a context marked by war, suffering, and severe humanitarian emergencies. In particular, it acknowledges his work in coordinating and supporting the Comboni missionary communities, which continue to stand alongside the population through pastoral, educational, and charitable activities in support of displaced and most vulnerable people.
Established 36 years ago by Don Mario Pasini, a priest and journalist from Brescia, the Cuore Amico Award is regarded as one of Italy’s most important missionary distinctions and is awarded annually to priests, men and women religious, and lay people who stand out for their service to the poorest.
The award includes a grant of €50,000, which will be allocated to a significant social project of the Comboni Province in Sudan. The award ceremony will take place on 17 October 2026 at the Church of San Cristo in Brescia.
This recognition represents an acknowledgement of the commitment of the Comboni missionaries who, despite the difficulties and instability in the country, continue to bear witness to the Church’s closeness to populations most affected by the crisis. This award is a source of joy for the entire Comboni family and encourages the continuation, with renewed hope, of service, solidarity, and the proclamation of the Gospel alongside populations most affected by war and its consequences.
