Three Comboni scholastics received the order of the diaconate in Cairo, Egypt, after completing their theological formation in Lebanon. The new deacons will complete their study of the Arabic language in Cairo.

Comboni Bishop Claudio Lurati, Apostolic Vicar of Alexandria, ordained the scholastics Kambale Kasoro Meschack and Kasereka Mwami Charles, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Cristal Mamadou, from the Central African Republic, as deacons on 10 July.

The three scholastics made their final consecration for the mission at the Comboni Institute the previous evening, at the Church of Cor Jesu in the Egyptian capital.

The ordination, in turn, took place at the Sacred Heart Parish in Sakakini, Cairo, with a solemn Mass lasting three hours.

The liturgical ceremony took place in an atmosphere of heartfelt prayer, joy, and thanksgiving. A beautiful moment of grace for the Church, for the Comboni Missionaries, and for all those present. During the liturgy, the three ordinands publicly committed themselves to the ministry of the Gospel and to the service of the people of God as deacons.

The celebration brought together family members who had travelled from different countries, confreres, men and women religious, priests, friends, parishioners, and many faithful. The Ambassador of the Central African Republic was also in attendance.

"We rejoice and give thanks with all our hearts to God for the gift of the diaconate and for the continuous gift of vocations in the Church. May the Holy Spirit strengthen us in our ministry, and fill us with wisdom, humility, and missionary zeal," said the newly ordained Deacon Charles Mwami.

The ordination was followed by a fraternal dinner in the church courtyard, accompanied by music.
