The Province of the Comboni Missionaries of Brazil opened the Comboni Jubilee Year on Wednesday, 9 September, on the liturgical feast of Saint Peter Claver, patron of the Institute.

The opening took place in the context of the Provincial Assembly, following a day dedicated to the memory of the history of the Comboni Missionaries in Brazil.

The Jubilee Year celebrates 75 years of the Comboni presence in Brazil and 160 years since the foundation of the Institute of the Comboni Missionaries.

The opening Mass was celebrated at the Santa Cruz da Reconciliação Shrine, in Caxingui, São Paulo. It was presided over by the Provincial Superior, Fr Raimundo Rocha.

Taking part in the celebration were the Superior General and the Vicar General of the Comboni Missionaries, the Provincial Superiors of Ecuador and Peru, and the Delegate for Colombia. Also present were Comboni missionaries serving in Brazil, members of the Shrine community, several Comboni Missionary Sisters, scholastics, and leaders of São Sebastião Parish in Sapopemba.
