Comboni Missionaries in Brazil celebrate Provincial Assembly

The extraordinary provincial assembly had as its main objectives to reflect on the Comboni mission in the current context and to deepen the process of unification of the circumscriptions, as part of the ongoing reconfiguration process within the Institute.

Almost all the members of the 14 communities of the Province of Brazil took part in the event, together with the Superior General, Father Luigi Codianni, the Vicar General, Father David Domingues, and the major superiors of the circumscriptions of Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.

“Going Beyond” in Mission

At the opening of the proceedings, the Provincial Superior, Father Raimundo Rocha, presented the objectives of the assembly, emphasizing the importance of remembering the Comboni presence in Brazil while, at the same time, looking toward the future in light of today’s challenges.

“We want to remember our missionary presence and reflect on mission today, with the aim of making our missionary presence and action more meaningful and consistent with the Rule of Life, ensuring a more qualified missionary service, and deepening our reflection on the process of unification of the circumscriptions.”

Throughout the four days, participants reflected on the theme “Comboni Mission Today and the Call to Go Beyond,” inspired by Jesus’ invitation: “Put out into the deep” (Luke 5:4).

The program combined moments of prayer, sharing, reflection and discussion, seeking to foster a common understanding of the challenges facing the Comboni mission and the new demands placed on communities and missionaries.

One of the central themes of the assembly was the process of unifying the Province of Brazil with the circumscriptions of Peru, Ecuador and Colombia.

The reflection is part of the reconfiguration process being carried out by the Institute in order to respond more appropriately to the current challenges of the mission.

75 Years of Comboni Presence in Brazil

The Extraordinary Provincial Assembly also marked the opening of the Comboni Jubilee Year, celebrating 75 years of the Institute’s presence in Brazil.

The Jubilee will run from October 10, 2026, to October 10, 2027.

The Jubilee Year is also part of the celebrations marking the 160th anniversary of the foundation of the Institute of the Comboni Missionaries, founded by Saint Daniel Comboni in 1867.
