The annual assembly of the German-Speaking Province (DSP) took place in Ellwangen from October 5 to 9, 2026. A total of 39 confreres from all six communities gathered for the occasion. They were joined from Rome by the Superior General, Fr Luigi Codianni, and his Assistant General, Fr Austine Odhiambo.
The Provincial Superior, Fr Roberto Turyamureeba, welcomed the new arrivals in the Province: Fr Timothee Hounake from Togo and Scholastic James Vitalis from Kenya.
Also present were the three scholastics, Wilson, Blondel and Daniel, from the formation community in Graz.
The annual reports of the Provincial Superior and the Provincial Treasurer, the merging of the European provinces, the presentation of the Congregation’s Code of Conduct, and the development of a safeguarding plan for each local community were the main topics on the agenda.
We benefited from the expertise of a Jesuit who had played a significant role in the merging of the Jesuit provinces in Europe through a video conference.
We also had an opportunity to meet with the Comboni Lay Missionaries of the DSP.
The assembly was very well prepared and provided a valuable opportunity for personal encounters and strengthening fraternal bonds.
Despite the challenges that lie ahead, the atmosphere was very positive and full of hope.
During the solemn closing Mass, celebrated on the eve of the solemnity of St Daniel Comboni, we all renewed our religious vows and our consecration to God for the mission.
