From May 7-9, 2019, we had our workshop on intercultural living and the challenge of ethnocentrism in South Sudan with 16 participants, including Fr Johnson (Palica) and Mr Isaac Kenyi (SSCBC) and 3 Comboni sisters. We invited Fr Basilio and Loes Lijnders from the Justice and Peace department of the Catholic University to give an input and facilitate a discussion.

Vescovo spagnolo, 67 anni a giugno, Mons. Miguel Ángel Ayuso Guixot, nuovo presidente del Pontificio Consiglio per il Dialogo Interreligioso, succede al cardinale Tauran, morto l’anno scorso. Esperto di islam, come missionario comboniano ha vissuto per molti anni in Egitto e Sudan.

The leaders of the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) sector of the Comboni circumscriptions of English-speaking Africa (APDESAM) and French-speaking Africa (ASCAF) met in an assembly from 1 to 7 April 2019, at the Good Shepherd Centre for Peace, south-east of Juba, South Sudan, to reflect on the “Catholic response to Justice and Peace issues in an ever changing Africa). Ten of the 13 circumscriptions had sent their representatives. The Central African Republic, Eritrea and Mozambique were justifiably absent. Fr. Arlindo Pinto had come from Rome to represent the General Secretariat of the Mission. The moderator was Aloys Ojore, professor at the Tangaza University in Nairobi (Kenya).

Vocation Story: An only son, but never lonely

When a college student, Jemboy Caspis Salarde told his parents he wanted to be a missionary priest, they felt that such a vocation would deprive them of their only treasure. He waited. He even tried to put the call aside. Until he was no longer able to hold it back. Finally, the parents agreed: “Go with our blessing”. Today, he is working with the Pokots, an ethnic group of Kenya, certain that dad and mum understand that God desires their son’s happiness more than they do. [Comboni Missionaries]
