On October 10, the feast of San Daniel Comboni in the community of Florence, Italy, had a special character. Two confreres commemorated their missionary commitment. Fr. Michele Bonfitto (in the photo in the center) celebrated 65 years of priestly life and Bro. Emilio Prevedello 50 years of consecration to the missions.

Bro. Prevedello (second from right) celebrated 50 years of dedication to the mission.

With the presence of the auxiliary bishop of Florence, Claudio Maniano, who presided over the Eucharistic celebration and of the provincial of Italy, Fr. Corrado Masini, the celebration was the principal moment of an intense day lived together by the community of Tuscany. The entire Comboni family was represented: including the Comboni Secular Missionaries of Carraia, a Comboni Missionary Sister and the Comboni Lay Missionaries.

The morning was given to the reading of some texts of Comboni and to the challenges of the mission today, trying to capture the spirit of Comboni and the missionary commitment of today, giving priority to the migrants and to the youth, priority areas of the mission in Italy and in Europe.

The participation of several African priests, who work in parishes of Florence while continuing their studies, together with a large number of relatives, friends and benefactors has shown once again the vitality of the charism and the opportunity for an activity always more inserted in the territory and the necessity of working together as a Comboni family.
