The scholastic Joseph Chilimba Pius Albert, 32 years, is the only Comboni missionary of his group of five companions to be ordained priest in Malawi this year. The ceremony took place the 20 June 2015 in his home parish of Chingazi in the Archdiocese of Blantyre. After completing the philosophical studies at Balaka, Pius did his novitiate in Namugongo (Uganda) and studied theology at Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Today he is a priest.

Both parents of Pius Chilimba died when he was a child. So Pius was cared for by his grandmother and financially supported in his studies by his uncle John Chome. Of the only two children in the family he is the only one alive. His sister also died prematurely.

Pius Chilimba ordination was made to coincide with the Golden anniversary of his parish.

The celebration was broadcasted on television and also attended by the Malawian President, since he himself grew up there.

The archbishop of Blantyre, Mgr. Thomas Luke Msusa, commented on the falling rain as a sign of blessing from God. The people were brave to face the bad weather and with their singing and dancing warmed up the hearts of every one present.

Many Comboni confreres working in Malawi were present, led by the provincial Fr. Kanyike Edward Mayanja. We wish Fr. Pius a successful missionary service as he is going to North Western Kenya.
