On the 5th of November 2016, Fr. Margarito Garrido Santiago III was ordained priest by Bishop Arturo M. Bastes, SVD, Bishop of the Diocese of Sorsogon, Philippines. The ordination took place in the parish church of the Holy Infant Jesus in Matnog, Sorsogon. A large number of people took part in the celebration: the members of Margarito’s family, his relatives and friends, many parishioners, confreres from Manila, Macau, Taiwan and Vietnam, aspirants and postulants from the Daniel Comboni Seminary, groups of friends and Comboni volunteers from Manila and from Taiwan, where Margarito did his Missionary Service and had his pastoral experience as a deacon.

Bishop Arturo M. Bastes spoke about Saint Daniel Comboni with enthusiasm and asked Margarito Garrido to imitate his great missionary zeal. He also invited the young priest to fix his eyes upon Christ Jesus getting inspiration from the Blessed Virgin Mary, our intercessor and Mother of Hope for all, especially the missionaries who turn to her with filial devotion. During the homily the bishop praised our magazine ‘World Mission’ as a good means of mission promotion and he encourage the Comboni Missionaries to continue making their presence felt in Asia and, particularly, in the Philippines.

Fr. Margarito Garrido joined the Comboni Missionaries after having been employed by the Local Government Unit of Matnog in the field of research for two years. He made his novitiate in Mexico and studied theology in Peru. He will return to Taiwan to continue the study of Mandarin and become more and more involved in the mission in the Chinese world.
