From 7th to 29th April, Fr. David Domingues, our Vicar General, carried out a canonical visit to the North American Province (NAP). His journey began in Los Angeles, where he met with confrères and members of various parish councils. Following individual meetings, the community gathered for a thanksgiving Eucharist, which was joyfully followed by an agape meal in Covina. His next stop was Newark/New York, on the East Coast, where he celebrated Palm Sunday with the local Christian community at St Lucy church, Newark. He also participated in the Chrism Mass with the priests of the Archdiocese of Newark. It was a blessing to meet Cardinal Joseph Tobin, who expressed his appreciation for the work of the Comboni Missionaries in his archdiocese. Fr. David also visited the United Nations, VIVAT International, and the Justice Offices of collaborating forces.
The Holy Triduum was spent in Cincinnati, where he celebrated Easter Sunday Mass at St. Boniface, one of the parishes within the Guadalupe family of parishes. He met with the office staff at the Provincial House and the pastoral team.
In Chicago, a city that holds fond memories of his theological formation over 25 years ago, Fr. David met with the formative community. He also participated in a joint meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council and the Parish Finance Council, in Evanston, which concluded with a shared meal.
On the way to Canada, he made a brief stop in Monroe, Michigan, where he celebrated the Eucharist with the Comboni Ladies Auxiliaries, offering thanks especially for two couples celebrating their 50th and 70th wedding anniversaries. He presented them with Papal Blessings as a sign of gratitude and recognition.
The final leg of the visit took him to Kitchener/Waterloo, Canada, where he met with confrères and the Christian communities of St. Joseph and St. Ann Parishes. He also made a brief visit to St. Agnes Parish in Waterloo, which is set to welcome the Comboni Missionaries beginning June 25, 2025.
We thank Fr. David for his encouraging presence and his fraternal visit to the NAP. We assure him of our prayers and communion with the entire Institute as we continue our journey as Pilgrims of Hope.
