Last Saturday, 28th June, Comboni College of Science and Technology (CCST) inaugurated its new premises in Port Sudan. The new facilities will improve the quality of the work the College is already doing with the university students registered before the war in Khartoum but also opens the door to the admission of new students
Luca Renda, UNDP Resident Representative in Sudan, praised the way a private institution like CCST is integrated in the national development through its collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Higher Education and the community, in this case through the activities of the Nursing Clinic, Palliative Care Hospice and its volunteers. He also underlined the characteristics of the building, which are completely sustainable in terms of energy, thanks to the solar panels, and water, thanks to the collection system of the water condensed by the air conditioners. Comboni Secondary School also benefits from the building, as the ground floor includes three classrooms for the girls’ section.
On Sunday the 29th, the national baccalaureate examinations began across the country. This is the second session after the start of the war, so they count as secondary school exams for 2024. The Minister of General Education, Dr Ahmed Khalifa, visited the Comboni Secondary School and the new College building, where he was able to appreciate the quality and characteristics of our educational proposal. He stressed the need to incorporate online education in Sudan to raise its level and broaden its horizons.
Asdiqa’ Comboni – Comboni’s Friends
On 14th June 2025, more than 50 Comboni friends met in “Cordi Jesu” Missionary Animation Center (Cairo/Egypt). It was a strong moment of meeting, prayer and formation, animated by the team of mission animators and focused on the importance of having friends who share our spirituality and pray for the mission. At the centre of the reflection and discussion was the vision and contents of St Daniel Comboni’s Plan for the Regeneration of Africa.
Father Giovanni Antonello opened the gathering with a moment of prayer and then helped the assembly understand that all of us need the assistance of others at a certain moment of our life.
After welcoming those present, Father Christophe Bamana recalled that our Founder, Saint Daniel Comboni, had many friends in Europe, but also in missionary places. One of his friends was the ruler of Egypt in his time, Ismail Pasha’, who gave the great missionary a piece of land where the foundation stone was laid for “Cordi Jesu”, the first church dedicated to the Sacred Heart in Africa and the centre of Comboni’s future missionary activities.
Then Father Mina Albeer presented the purpose of the meeting: “We would like to share our spirituality and some mission experiences with our friends and pray for the mission.”
The Comboni Plan was then presented. Sister Amani Boulis, Comboni Missionary sister, underlined that the main aim of our Founder was to reach the souls of those who were living in the center of Africa, because other congregations were already present along the coast of the Continent. This meeting was a great chance for friends to come together and witness the beauty of Comboni’s mission today.
