The Comboni Province of South Africa had the honour to host, for the very first time, Fr. Angelo Giorgetti, treasurer general of the Institute from November 11th to 23rd 2025. During his visit, Fr. Angelo spent quality time with Bro. Paulo Felix, provincial treasurer, during which he audited our provincial accounts and assisted him with some technicalities of the accounting system at the provincial house in Kensington. Fr. Angelo also met some local treasurers and members of the provincial secretariat of finance in Silverton, Pretoria.
From 17th to 22nd, Fr. Angelo, assisted by Bro. Paulo and Fr. John Baptist, provincial superior, gave a five-day course to the community of the scholasticate at Pietermaritzburg. The topics addressed included: the XIX General Chapter and Finance; introductory accounts and bookkeeping; juridical concepts and organisational set-up of the Institute; the Total Common Fund (TCF) – that is, basic rules and challenges of the Comboni financial system. Fr. John Baptist presented the MCCJ Code of Conduct and the Safeguarding Policy.
Fr. Angelo’s visit was indeed of immense significance and moment of communion with the whole Institute, as he shared with us his technical and professional expertise in the financial field. He systematically and patiently initiated our scholastics and other confreres in matters of finance and clearly spelt out areas of concern that influence the way we live mission today, making us aware of the financial repercussions. In all this conversation, he drew inspiration from the experience and example of our Founder, St. Daniel Comboni.
We have all learnt a lot from the visit of the Treasurer General and hope that the knowledge and skills acquired will bear abundant fruit for our Province and Institute, both for the present but specially for the future.
