On 11 January 2026, the Feast of the Baptism of Our Lord, the provincial house in Juba was filled with joy as scholastic Gum Santino Mawan Guor made his perpetual vows during the annual provincial assembly. The celebration was witnessed by many Comboni confreres, including Bishop Tesfaye Tadesse, the former Comboni General Superior and now Auxiliary Bishop of Addis Ababa, who celebrated the Mass.

Brother Alberto Lamana, several religious sisters, and Santino’s family were also present. Father Gregor, Provincial Superior of South Sudan, received the vows and praised Santino for his quiet courage in saying Yes to God and committing himself to the Comboni family.

Born and raised in a Catholic family, Santino began his Comboni formation with pre‑postulancy in Lomin, South Sudan. He studied philosophy in Nairobi-Kenya for three years, then completed two years of novitiate in Bauleni‑Lusaka, Zambia, where he made his first vows. He pursued theological studies in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, and afterward returned to South Sudan for a year of missionary service at Mapourdit Parish in the Rumbek Diocese. His diaconal ordination is scheduled for 8 February 2026, the Feast of St. Josephine Bakhita.

Let us accompany Scholastic Santino Mawan with our prayers as he continues his vocation.
