Ethiopia: General Council expresses solidarity with missionaries amid violence

War has once again erupted on a large scale in northern Ethiopia. In the south, growing insecurity caused by fighting between rebel and government forces has forced the missionaries to evacuate the Haro Wato mission. In response to the difficult situation, the General Council has sent a message expressing its closeness, solidarity and support to the missionaries and the local communities affected by the violence.
Dear missionaries,
we are following with great concern what is happening, and we are particularly close to our confreres and to all those who are going through such difficult and painful moments.
Our closeness is above all expressed through our prayer. We entrust to the Lord our confreres who have been forced to leave the community, those who are living in fear and uncertainty, and all those who are most affected by violence and war.
In this very difficult moment, let us not lose hope. Let us continue to remain united, supporting one another as brothers and trusting that a path towards peace, reconciliation, and a more peaceful future may soon open up.
We are with you and accompany you with our prayers. May the Lord protect you, strengthen you, and grant you His peace.
