For the world, even for its best part, poverty is seen only as an evil to be eradicated. And that is far too little. Dilexi te, the first document of Pope Leo XIV inspired by Pope Francis, speaks mainly about bad poverty — that is, misery and deprivation — but it does not forget the beautiful poverty of the Gospel. The document outlines the struggles and proposals to address the global climate and socio-environmental crisis. The fundamental cause is the current economic system, which sacrifices nature and the life that inhabits it for profit and the accumulation of wealth. Yesterday marked another exciting moment of encounter, learning, and networking, as members of the Forum of the Comboni Family on Integral Ecology (FCFIE) took part in various conversations of diverse nature. Two conversations stood out yesterday. Both were organized by the Ecumenical and Inter-religious “Tapiri” and hosted by the Anglican Cathedral of Belém, Brazil.

Most participants in the Comboni Family Forum on Integral Ecology (CFFIE) took part in two events: 1. The “Cúpula dos Povos” meeting that dealt with the issues of solidarity, resistance and hope in relation to the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energies and its effect on climate change. 2. The celebration of the 25th anniversary of the foundation of VIVAT International, an organization to which belong the Comboni sisters and the Comboni missionaries.

A essere sotto i riflettori del mondo, dal 10 al 21 novembre, è la città di Belém, capitale dello Stato brasiliano amazzonico del Pará. «Il tema chiave, per quanto riguarda il nostro contributo, è la denuncia delle ‘false soluzioni’, che è anche uno dei temi forti del documento delle Chiese del Sud globale. C’è il rischio, in particolare, che la transizione energetica di per sé importante e urgente, possa diventare un mito, e un ‘cavallo di Troia’ per le comunità del Sud globale», dice padre Dario Bossi, missionario comboniane, che partecipa alla Conferenza mondiale sul clima (COP30).
