The program of the World Social Forum (WSF), which takes place this year in Montreal, Canada, from the 9th to the 14th of August, is now official. The WSF 2016 will host about 50 000 people, from 120 countries and around 5000 organizations who want to build a sustainable and inclusive world, where every person and every people has its place and can make its voice heard. There will be more than1300 events, including arts and culture, as well as 21 Grand Conferences. The slogan of the WSF 2016 is “Another world is needed. Together it is possible!” Thirteen Comboni Missionaries and two Comboni Sisters will participate in the event as “Comboni Network” and will present six workshops on topics related to issues of social and environmental justice.

The World Social Forum (WSF) will take place this year in Montreal, Quebec, Canada from 9 to 14 of August. The WSF 2016 seeks to gather tens of thousands of people from groups in civil society, organizations and social movements who want to build a sustainable and inclusive world, where every person and every people has its place and can make its voice heard. The WSF is “an open meeting place for reflective thinking, democratic debate of ideas, formulation of proposals, free exchange of experiences and interlinking for effective action, by groups and movements of civil society”. Thirteen Comboni Missionaries and two Comboni Sisters will participate in the event as “Comboni Network” and will present some workshops on topics related to issues of social and environmental justice. “Distruggere i barconi degli scafisti nelle acque libiche e bloccare così l’esodo dei profughi. Le intenzioni sono ben chiare: è guerra! Chi pagherà questo protagonismo bellico italiano? Dobbiamo chiedere invece alla UE e all’Italia di imporre un embargo sulla vendita di armi ai ‘signori della guerra’ in Libia. Chiediamo altresì alla Unione Europea (UE) perché faccia pressione sulla Tunisia e sull’Egitto perché questi due paesi confinanti aprano le loro frontiere per accogliere i rifugiati intrappolati in Libia. Ma la UE dovrà poi concordare con l’Egitto e la Tunisia l’apertura dei corridoi umanitari per permettere ai rifugiati di arrivare in Europa. Questa sì sarebbe una vera soluzione per i profughi e segnerebbe la sconfitta degli scafisti e delle organizzazioni criminali”, scrive Alex Zanotelli, missionario comboniano.

Comboni Message from the World Social Forum 2015. “After two years, the World Social Forum (WSF) has returned to Tunis in a context of growing instability and violence in North African Countries and the Middle East. The WSF set out to be a sign of peace and hope for the process of the “Arab Spring” which has been threatened by terrorism and runs the risk of being perverted by religious fundamentalism and repressive governments. The WSF participants have repudiated “every form of terrorism”, including the arrogance of militarism and the systemic violence of a homicidal economy.” […]

We are approaching the end of the World Social Forum 2015 in Tunis. The chilly and windy weather disturbed the participation and the attendance to the different conferences and this was affected by the unfavorable atmospheric condition, but as Comboni Network we tried our best to be present in them. The World Social Forum ends today with the assemblies of convergence and the March final in the afternoon. Tomorrow, the day will be dedicated to the Comboni Forum that aims to share the challenges that the WSF present to the missionary pastoral activity in the countries and continents where they minister.

Il Forum dell’orgoglio tunisino. Non proprio «globale», essenzialmente maghrebino, molto di base, il Forum sociale mondiale che si conclude oggi, dopo tre giorni di workshop, incontri e manifestazioni, ha mostrato soprattutto un’anima tunisina. Un’anima ferita dall’attentato al Museo del Bardo dello scorso 18 marzo, solidale con le vittime e i loro familiari, ma anche un’anima fiera di essere riuscita a reagire e mostrare al mondo che almeno un’“altra” Tunisia è possibile. Libertà di informazione, promozione dell’uguaglianza di genere, tutela dell’ambiente, immigrazione, difesa dei popoli e confronto costruttivo tra le varie religioni. Sono solo alcuni dei temi che accendono il dibattito nei workshop in corso all’università di El Manar a Tunisi, sede dell’edizione del Forum sociale mondiale in corso dal 24 al 28 marzo 2015. “Sarebbe sbagliato pensare che Tunisi è rimasta paralizzata dalla paura e dagli attentati della scorsa settimana” dice alla MISNA suor Fernanda Cristinelli, missionaria comboniana in questi giorni a Tunisi per il Forum. “La città ferita ha saputo reagire e accogliere con gioia questa comunità colorata, piena di speranza per un futuro migliore”.
