At COP27 we as VIVAT delegates met and interacted with the delegation of Indigenous Peoples, one of the 9 non-Party Constituencies recognised by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Their presence and activities have been highly inspirational for me, and provoked a sort of soul searching urge. Their message was simple and clear: we need to decolonise climate action. COP27 in Sharm-el-Sheikh in many ways an African COP. There was broad participation from the Continent, including States, regional bodies and a vibrant civil society. Above all, it placed the issue of climate justice at the centre: the countries that contributed least to the climate crisis are the ones paying the highest price. Those who polluted must pay their climate debt, so that no one is left behind.
AEFJN holds her Annual General Meeting in Rome

On October 27th the Annual General Meeting of Africa Europe Faith and Justice Network (AEFJN) took place in Rome, hosted by the Missionaries of Africa. It was well attended, both in presence and from remote via teleconference. It is the largest gathering of the network since the emergency of the COVID pandemic.
