The year 2024 has been a period of transition for the Africa Europe Faith and Justice Network (AEFJN). We adopted a new Strategic Plan, renewed our International Secretariat in Brussels, and saw changes in our Executive Committee as several long-serving members moved on to new assignments. These transitions presented both challenges and opportunities, allowing us to reinvigorate our mission for economic justice and hope for Africa.

La cooperazione allo sviluppo dei Paesi più svantaggiati (africani in primis), da sempre una sfida di civiltà mai affrontata con effettiva determinazione dai Paesi più ricchi, è oggi in una fase di ulteriore arretramento rispetto al passato. Eppure stiamo parlando di uno strumento indispensabile alla causa della pace. Peraltro, l’attuale congiuntura internazionale è tale per cui a pagare il prezzo più alto sono i ceti meno abbienti che costituiscono in molti casi la stragrande maggioranza delle popolazioni. Fuori dai radar dei mass media di tutto il mondo e distante dall’interesse della comunità internazionale il Sudan, in guerra da un anno e mezzo, continua a sprofondare in una crisi umanitaria senza precedenti. Un conflitto civile che, secondo le stime delle Nazioni Unite e di altre organizzazioni umanitarie, ha causato almeno 7.500 vittime e ha costretto allo sfollamento 6,5 milioni di persone. Più di 10.000.000 bambini in Sudan si sono trovati in una zona di guerra attiva e a meno di cinque chilometri di distanza da spari, bombardamenti e altre violenze mortali, dall’inizio del conflitto più di un anno fa, il 15 aprile 2023, un numero più alto di quello dei minori che vivono attualmente in Italia.
