Mission: "Who Is He?"

Mexican Sister Cecilia Sierra is part of the Comboni community in the Holy Land, accompanying Palestinian Bedouin communities in the desert of the West Bank. A presence that seeks to be, above all, a witness to Jesus — made life in attitudes, gestures, and deeds.
“Who is He?”, the children ask, as their eyes linger on the crucifix we wear upon our chest.
They are Bedouin children — Arab, Palestinian, and Muslim. For many, this is their very first encounter with followers of Jesus. Some draw near, touch the crucifix, hold it in their small hands, and gaze at it with curiosity and wonder.
Their question, too, speaks to our hearts: who is He to us?
Perhaps one day they will forget our names and our words. But perhaps what will remain in their hearts is the memory of women who were there, in the midst of the desert, sharing their lives and their days in the name of Jesus.
And perhaps, gazing upon that cross, they will also discover that the One who gave Himself upon it loves them beyond measure.
