Solidarity with the families of Spin Time in Rome

For over a week now, families have encamped on the street, awaiting authorisation to return to their flats and to resume the many social, cultural, and solidarity-based activities that have animated this space for years.

Born out of the building occupied since 2013, Spin Time has grown into a community in which families from diverse backgrounds live alongside associations, informal groups, and third-sector organisations.

This experience stands as a landmark for the city of Rome and an example — recognised also at international level — of coexistence, democratic participation, and the defence of the right to housing.

In October 2025, Spin Time hosted the World Meeting of Popular Movements, in dialogue with Pope Leo XIV, confirming the value of grass-roots paths of participation and democracy capable of generating inclusion, social justice, and active citizenship.

We welcome the news that the City of Rome is considering the acquisition of the building. We call on the judicial authorities to authorise the necessary technical inspection as soon as possible, so that families may return swiftly to their homes and the activities that make Spin Time a precious asset for the entire city may resume.
