The girls began arriving early in the morning. Nearly 40 had signed up to learn computer skills in this small Bedouin village on the West Bank, so the teacher decided to divide them into two groups.

She herself is a young Bedouin woman, a recent computer engineering graduate who finished at the top of her class. Now, she wants to share her knowledge with the young women of her own community.

This afternoon, there are 28 girls and just three laptops.

Many are studying at university, others are about to begin, and some have recently married. They all have one thing in common: an enormous desire to learn and to open up new opportunities for their future.

And they are doing so in the midst of very difficult times, in a community that has recently experienced violence, destruction, and deep pain.

That is why seeing them gathered here, learning and moving forward, carries such special meaning.

Three laptops for 28 girls. It may not be much, but it is a beginning. And they are determined to make the most of it.
