Sr. Monica Luparello was born and raised in Palermo, Italy. After graduating in medicine and surgery, she entered the Congregation of the Comboni Missionary Sisters. She tells us her story.

Afro Pastoral, a priority for the American continent ever since the 1985 Chapter, has recently made considerable progress both in coordination and modernisation. For some time, the representatives of the Pastoral in the circumscriptions of Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia (Fr. Anoumou Mossi Kuami Bernardin, Brasil; Fr. Laye Ayikoue Mawutodji Elysée, Peru; Fr. Raffaello Savoia, Colombia, Bro. Alberto Degan, Colombia, and Bro. Abel Dimanche, Ecuador) hold virtual meetings each month to share information, dialogue about common problems and encourage each other in this journey so much in line with the charism we have inherited from St. Daniel Comboni.

The book entitled “We are mission. Testimonies of Social Ministeriality in the Comboni Family” was published in June 2020, in four languages (Italian, English, Spanish and French). The book is the fruit of the collaboration of 61 missionaries who were invited to tell the story of their lived social ministry; two external experts made a sapiential reading of the material, indicating the strong points of ministerial commitment and the knots to be undone for a more effective change to the system.

Il sacrificio di questa missionaria ha implicato non solo la fine della sua vocazione religiosa ma anche di ogni speranza umana. Rimase infatti incatenata per tutta la vita alla sua condizione di moglie forzata.

Ayuso Guixot, president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue: "Pope Francis calls for a Church which goes forth, friend of the poorest, in dialogue with everyone and, in keeping with the Gospel, a Church that calls on everyone to recognize the centrality of the human person and his/her inherent dignity. He is evidently seeking 'allies and friends' especially among those who can draw on a rich spiritual heritage and age-old wisdom such as the members of non-Christian faiths. No one is saved alone".
