The Palorinya Comboni Mission is one of the innovative communities in the Comboni family, implementing some priorities of our XVIII General Chapter. Refugee programs and especially those aimed at peace building are very important reminders for the Institute for the sustainability and growth of our missionary work among the poorest and the most abandoned populations.

Apenas eleito, o Papa Francisco desvelou este seu sonho de uma igreja em saída para ir às periferias, tanto geográficas como sociais, culturais como religiosas. O Papa Francisco propõe aos cristãos uma atitude de abertura e de inclusão para com todos, especialmente para com os pobres e os descartados. De facto, diz o Santo Padre: «Hoje e sempre os pobres são os destinatários prioritários do Evangelho e a evangelização dirigida a eles é sinal da soberania de Deus que Jesus veio anunciar. É necessário afirmar que existe um vínculo inseparável entre a nossa fé e os pobres.»

As we go through the “History of the Missions”, it is enriching to stop and reflect on the Patron of our Congregation: Francis Xavier. Born in Spain, he was exposed to internationality and science, in Paris. When he entered the circle of friends, and then as a member of the Society of Jesus, he had a wealth of culture and science.

I was called to a missionary service as a Comboni Brother in South Sudan, working in health care promotion, first as a faculty member in a school for obstetricians and nurses and, for the past four years, I have been entrusted with the responsibility of being the acting medical director and administrator of Mary Immaculate Hospital, located in the Lakes Region, 70 km from the capital Rumbek.

O ser humano está feito de tal maneira que não se realiza, não se desenvolve, nem pode encontrar a sua plenitude «a não ser no sincero dom de si mesmo» aos outros (Fratelli tutti 87). O Papa Francisco no capítulo III da Fratelli tutti, recorda-nos que por natureza estamos feitos para transcender no amor autêntico na doação gratuita no serviço aos nossos semelhantes. Em primeiro lugar está o amor, o amor nunca deve ser colocado em risco, o maior perigo é não amar (1Cor 13,1-13).
